Role Summary

We seek a highly motivated Co-Op Student to join the Neuromuscular Biology team to execute established biomarker assays using a variety of readout technologies. The student will work closely with mentor(s) to conduct high-throughput experiments using robotics to understand the mechanism of action of drugs tested in cellular and animal models. There will also be opportunities to train cross-functionally with other scientists within the company. The successful candidate will be team-oriented, ambitious, motivated, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

This role is based in Waltham, MA without the possibility of being a remote role. This role will be for a 6 month period beginning in January 2023.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • The individual will support research plans to analyze research studies with biochemical and histological readouts for target engagement, mechanism of action, and therapeutic efficacy
  • Support biomarker assays to isolate nucleic acids and proteins
  • Perform qRT-PCR and protein-based assays to look at gene and protein expression in tissues
  • Participate in literature search, experimental design, and optimization of molecular biology assays
  • Maintain accurate and clear records of experimental work
  • At the end of the program, you will present a summary of the project to the department

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Self-motivated junior/senior undergraduate with a background in Biology, Biotechnology,

Pharmacology or an equivalent in a biological discipline

  • Previous hands-on academic/ industry experience with molecular biology techniques is desired including, but not limited to
    • Handling in vivo samples
    • Nucleic acid isolation extraction for gene expression analysis
    • Protein isolation
  • The candidate must be self-motivated and possess the ability to effectively communicate ideas and document research.
